Good To Know

Gnaviyani Atoll, corresponding to the island of Fuvahmulah, is located between the atolls of Huvadhu and Addu, and is the smallest administrative division of the Maldives. With its lush vegetation and two freshwater lakes, Gnaviyani is a fertile island rich in agricultural land that produces fruits and vegetables. Its varied geography includes tropical forests, wetlands, white sandy beaches, and fertile swamps, making this island one of the most diverse in terms of natural landscapes in the entire archipelago.

Thoondu Beach, located at the northwestern tip of the island, is famous for being the only beach in the country made up of coral pebbles, rather than coral sand as in other islands.

The opening of a domestic airport on Fuvahmulah Island in 2011 made this remote atoll more accessible. Now, it can be reached in just over an hour from Malé International Airport. Fuvahmulah is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful islands in the Maldives and is famous among scuba diving enthusiasts for its fascinating marine life.

How to reach it: To reach the atoll, you must fly to Velana International Airport (MLE), the main airport in the Maldives, and then take a flight to Fuvahmulah (FVM) or Gan International Airport (GAN), located in the Addu Atoll (south of Fuvahmulah). From there, a speedboat transfer will take you to Fuvahmulah in about 45 minutes.
